Are you running your writing like a business? A better question may be “Should you run your writing like a business?”
The answer is: YES!!
It’s not hard. Really! But most writers don’t think they need to be a business, mostly because so few of us make appreciable money at it. But it’s possible that utilizing some simple business practices, your writing income may change. And that would be a good thing.
This class will talk about smart, doable, workable items, such as:
All of these can make a difference between “making it” in the biz or not. (Sally Hamer is NOT a tax or accounting professional. But she’ll show you how to find one.)
Sarah (Sally) Hamer is eternally fascinated by people and how they ‘tick’ and works hard to incorporate individual idiosyncrasies to create living, breathing characters in her many works of fiction. She writes in many genres – mystery, science fiction, fantasy, romance, medieval history, non-fiction – and has won awards at both local and national levels, including two Golden Heart finals.
A teacher of beginning and advanced creative fiction writing and screenwriting at Louisiana State University – S for over ten years, she also is a book coach, with many of her students and critique partners becoming successful, award-winning authors.
Loved this course. The business part of writing has always been a bit of a scary mystery to me, but I am feeling much more confident now. And Sally is wonderfully supportive and helpful with all sorts of questions and examples! I am feeling much more prepared and far less fearful that I will make ignorant business blunders that are hard to undo!
No tricks, only treats. Sarah does an excellent job of showing you how to take your writing seriously and as the business it is. She provides helpful trackers and goal setting assignments to help you focus on where you want to go. Happy I got to take this class and can set myself up for 2022.
Such a useful class—lots to think about, lots to do. Sally is a helpful & encouraging teacher, who managed to make many tasks I've been putting off seem much more do-able. It was a lot of work but I've emerged from my 'help I'm overwhelmed' cave with a folder of clear plans and a feeling of calmness and confidence and clarity.
