Margie Lawson left a career in psychology to focus on her true passion—helping writers make their stories, characters, and words strong. Tired of the same old writing rules and tools? Try something new.
Using a psychologically based, deep-editing approach, Margie teaches writers how to bring emotion to the page. Emotion equals power. And power not only grabs readers, it holds onto them until the end. Many Margie grads have gone on to win awards, find agents, sign with publishers, and hit bestseller lists.
As an international presenter, Margie has taught over 150 full day master classes in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and France, as well as multi-day intensives on cruise ships in the Caribbean. Pre-COVID, she taught 5-day Immersion Master Classes across the U.S. and Canada and in seven cities in Australia too.
COVID Update: Immersion Master Classes are now virtual, taught through Zoom. Virtual Immersion classes are limited to six writers. They're two days long with two big topics--and as always, writers get one on one deep editing with Margie.
She also founded Lawson Writer's Academy, where you’ll find over 30 instructors teaching online courses through her website. To learn more, sign up for Margie’s newsletter.

Becky Rawnsley is a physical therapist from the UK. She started writing as a hobby some twenty years ago, but realized if she was ever going to get off the slush-pile and onto the shelves, she needed help. Hunting for answers, she stumbled across Margie’s website and struck writing-gold.
Becky is now a multi-Margie, multi-LWA and Immersion grad, and has discovered a passion for deepening her understanding of writing craft. Her work now regularly finals in contests. She is keen to share the magic of Margie’s Big Three courses to help fellow writers bring their work to the next level—and beyond!
I learned so much in this class, even though I wasn't able to participate as much as I'd like in the forum. I've been through many classes, but this one is like icing on the cake.
I'm excited to learn more from the Lawson Academy.
I took this class in May 2021 with Becky Rawnsley. It was my first Margie Lawson class and I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm so glad I signed up! Becky is an engaged and supportive instructor. I learned something new in every single lecture. The lesson on "as, when, while" was particularly enlightening for me.
I would recommend this class to any writer, new or experienced.
This class was amazing! From what you’ll learn from Margie Lawson’s lectures to the tutelage received from Becky Rawnsley as she guides her students through the course, you will get more than your money’s worth. Becky has a unique way of understanding what a writer didn’t say, meant to say, or wanted to say. She showed me how to tighten homework passages as well as how to better communicate the message I’d wanted to share. Not only is Becky a wonderful instructor, but the time and generosity she takes with her students is invaluable and most definitely a secret ingredient of the More of this class. I highly recommend any of Margie’s classes, and any Becky teaches. A huge THANK YOU to Margie and Becky for all they do in helping writers better our craft! You are both appreciated!
First, the content of this class, rhetorical devices, have forever changed how I structure sentences. It's as if a secret door were unlocked. A secret door to a world more crisp, clear, and vivid.
Second, Becky. Wonderful Becky Rawnsley. She went through each students' assignment with extraordinary attention and detail and feedback. If this course granted the key to the secret door, her instruction taught how to turn that key AND open that door.
Deep Editing + Becky Rawnsley = The Dynamic Duo. Register. Right now. Seriously. Get the key to that secret door.
I loved learning more about the rhetorical devices in this class. Obviously, many of us learned about them in elementary school (my daughter was memorizing them at the same time I took this one), but you this class takes you so much deeper into how to use them to make your fiction resonant with writers on a deeper level.
Becky Rawnsley was such a great teacher for the class. You're tasked with finding places in your WIP to use these rhetorical devices and you get amazing feedback on how to make them even better after that. Becky is so generous with her time and expertise. There's nothing like these core Margie Lawson classes to transform your writing.
