Need more emotion in your scenes?
Facial expressions are one way to add emotion. They share subtext. And you almost can’t have too much subtext.
Those psychological messages lock your readers in your POV character’s emotional set.
Overused expressions don’t carry as much power. We’ve all read them too many times.
Write fresh facial expressions, and your writing will carry emotion that boosts you toward bestseller lists.

Margie Lawson left a career in psychology to focus on her true passion—helping writers make their stories, characters, and words strong. Tired of the same old writing rules and tools? Try something new.
Using a psychologically based, deep-editing approach, Margie teaches writers how to bring emotion to the page. Emotion equals power. And power not only grabs readers, it holds onto them until the end. Many Margie grads have gone on to win awards, find agents, sign with publishers, and hit bestseller lists.
As an international presenter, Margie has taught over 150 full day master classes in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and France, as well as multi-day intensives on cruise ships in the Caribbean. Pre-COVID, she taught 5-day Immersion Master Classes across the U.S. and Canada and in seven cities in Australia too.
COVID Update: Immersion Master Classes are now virtual, taught through Zoom. Virtual Immersion classes are limited to six writers. They're two days long with two big topics--and as always, writers get one on one deep editing with Margie.
She also founded Lawson Writer's Academy, where you’ll find over 30 instructors teaching online courses through her website. To learn more, sign up for Margie’s newsletter.
I "discovered" Margie's academy this past September. I took two classes with her and other teachers. I signed up for her October Webinar: Power Words. The material supplemented the writing skills I gained from the classes, boosted and complemented my improved writing instincts, and generally amped up my writing. I signed up for Margie's November webinar just passed: Writing Fresh. Just when I thought how could I learn more--I did. Margie demonstrates her teaching points by presenting many examples from published and soon-to-be-published authors. In her very-interactive webinars she also invites participations from the attendees, further encouraging and ensuring we understand and can apply those teaching points.
I heartily recommend these webinars. I am signed on for the December webinar and am anticipating future webinars!
Like Cassandra, I've taken the first three courses and have also committed to the rest of this spectacular series. It's like sharing Margie's mountain cabin with a bunch of warm friends. I do love this format. COVID has been kicked to the corner.
So far I've taken Dig for the Truth, Finessing Back Story, and What's the Visual - and I couldn't be more impressed with the information given and how it's presented. These 3 courses were so good I singed up for the rest as I know the information given will guide me to write with more impact. And in writing--impact sells books.
